Alternative/Inexpensive Solution for Editing Video?
Alright. I have good experience with making films and editing them through my school Film program. I want to start making films independently and I need some tips or advice on the editing aspect. I am going to buy a Sony Mini DV camcorder, firewire streaming (want HD but too expensive). I need either recommendations on inexpensive or alternatives on computers. I am used to Adobe Premier so I am sticking with that. Help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Sorry...my budget is not so great...
0 and under for camera.
0 and under for PC...i know it is not ideal to make films with that provided budget. But I don't really have many options and I want to get going!

You did not provide a budget.
DCR-HC52; HC62 – No mic jack. Rudimentary mic gain control in "MicRefLevel" menu setting. DV only.
HDR-HC9 – 1/8" stereo mic jack; manual audio control; DV/HDV.
DCR-VX2100 – prosumer, DV only; 1/8" stereo mic jack; manual audio control.
HDR-FX1000 – prosumer, DV/HDV; 1/8" stereo mic jack; manual audio control.
The shoulder-mount HVR-HD1000 is essentially the HC9 in a shoulder-mount footprint – compare the lenses and imaging chips. The HVR-A1U is the pro sibling to the consumer HDR-HC1 – plus the A1U has XLR mic connectors.
For computers, pretty much any mid-range or better made in the last year or so with 4 gig RAM, more than one hard drive (you don’t want the video project files on the same drive as the system start up drive) and a few firewire ports… For HDV projects a minimum of a 500 gig drive – just for the video project files – is suggested – bigger is handier.
A DVD drive that can handle single layer and double layer DVD burning for when you downsample to DVDs most people can play… BluRay burners are available – the blank discs are expensive and lots of people don’t have the players. I am skipping them because downloads and online are easier.
