Beginner's Camcorder question?

Hey, im about to buy my very first camcorder. im looking for a sony or a canon. the only thing is i want it to have a jack so that i can put an external microphone on it. The only ones i can find are expensive. do u knw any good hd camcorders with that capability under 0?
How good is standard definition? i dont want it to be like those crappy youtube videos with horrible quality. as long as SD has good quality then im fine with that too.i just realy want one with an external michrophone jack

    first consideration is HD is not a beginners format. even experienced hobbyists get frustrated with the lack of support for HD video products. HD is in a state of development so that even something as fundemental as file codecs may all change in the next year. start with SD because most all products will interface with standard resolution video. most SD cameras can shoot 16:9 widescreen if that is what you want.
