Camcorder Recomendations?

I'm a teenager interested in filming my own short filsm. You can imagine my budget isn't wildly flexible, so nothing over 1,000$. (I'm getting a job and am willing to save up.)
I want something flexible, manual controls, good in low light, something I can really use. Not just a simple point and shoot Sony HD Camcorder everyone seems to reccomend.
Used cameras are fine with me, honestly. I just want to be able to work with it.
