Can you edit HD camcorder video and burn it to blu-ray disc?

If I bought an HD camcorder, can I edit the video on a program like Windows movie maker like I did with a mini DV video? Does it have to be burned to blu-ray for high def quality or can it be saved back to the cameras hard drive for playback after editing?

Windows Movie Makes doesn’t support HD format unless you acquire additional codec packs. You will probably want a better editing software though if you are planning on doing HD video. Adobe Elements 8 is a perfect example. To burn to blu-ray, you will of course need a blu-ray burner which most computers don’t have. If you do, good for you. The most practical way to playback the edited videos in my opinion is to connect your computer to an HDTV. I have a laptop with HDMI so I can get the full 1080p on my HDTV. You can also playback directly from the Camcorder unedited. If your TV has a USB port, you can put your edited HD video on a large flash drive, or external hard drive compatible with your TVs FAT settings and playback that way.

You did not state which camcorder you bought so there is now way to know if the video format is supported by Movie Maker:

    Video files: .asf, .avi, .wmv
    Movie files: MPEG1, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2
Audio files: .wav, .snd, .au, .aif, .aifc, .aiff
Windows Media files: .asf, .wm, .wma, .wmv
Still images: .bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .jfif, .gif
    MP3 format audio: .mp3

You would have to author (Burn) your video on a Blu-ray disk if you want to watch the disk in full HD. With your videos still in the camcorder and if you connect it to a HDTV, you can watch your video in full HD.

I’d like to recommend AVS Video Editor to you, I always use it to edit video and make funny video for uploading to Youtube, it’s easy to use and the quality is awesome, you can crop, cut, join, edit video with it easily. It also embeds many special effects, you can even add text to video or add background music, that’s pretty cool. It worth a try
