Can you edit HD camera footage with Windows Movie Maker?

I am thinking of buying the Sony HDR-HC9 camcorder and I'm worried that Movie Maker will not support the footage. Also do you need a fast computer, because mine is not anything special...

If Windows Vista came with a new edition of MovieMaker then I don't have the latest edition because I'm still using Windows XP

There is no combination of Windows XP and MovieMaker version that will import or edit HDV format video. There are a couple of combinations of Vista and MovieMaker that can.

Typically, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere would be used.

A fast (current) CPU, 2 gig RAM (4 is recommended; more is better), and a separate hard drive for storing the video file projects is strongly recommended. You don’t want the video files on the same drive as the start-up system because the video editing application, the video project fiels and the operating system will be fighting each other for virtual memory hard drive access.

For burning the finished project to a DVD, it depends what your "audience" is.

You can use the DVD as a data disc and burn AVI files that are computer-readable high definition video files. These can also be uploaded to YouTube and other video sharing sites. This will not playback in a regular DVD because they usually need VOB files.

For regular DVD player, a DVD authoring tool (like WinDVD) would be used. This will also allow creation of a menu for scene selection and some of the other stuff to make their use easy. When this is done, the DVD authoring tool will downsample the video to standard definition.

Well, if the file format supported, then you can.

Windows movie maker wont let you put your edited films onto a dvd that will let you watch them on the tv.
You need windows dvd maker, which is not that good.
You would be better off with a software program like Ulead video studio 11 which is designed for hd editing.
You will need quite a good pc though with a good graphics card and processor.
    Hope this helps
