Canon FS20 48x Zoom Picture Quality Question?

Well it seems that the Canon FS20 48x Advance Zoom and 2000x Digital Zoom video quality is great for a non-HD camcorder, however the picture quality is awful. It looks worse then an outdated cell phone. Is there anyway to fix this?
What is an ISO?

If you can adjust the ISO of the sensor to a lower figure do so.

My guess is you are video taping in lower lighting conditions and without adding some light (like a couple of 750 watt lamps) the camera will automatically adjust to a higher ISO making the video noisy

Also ONLY use the optical zoom. When you use the digital zoom you start cropping out part of the sensor and that can certainly result in very poor video quality
