How do I get true HD from my camcorder?

I have a Canon Hf S10. This camera is amazing and I'm extremely happy with it's design.
My problem is that I record my video, take it to the computer, burn a dvd, and it looks like I recorded my video on an early 90's VHS camcorder.

My computer is also very laggy when editing.
I understand there could be loss of quality through compression and that my computer could be set on a PIO setting.

How do I fix these problems?

I've watched youtube videos where my camera type is used and it looks beautiful.
Please help me, I'm in the middle of making a student movie.
I do not have an HD DVD burner.

My editing software is: Cyberlink PowerDirector v7

Do you have a Blu Ray burner and HD DVD player? If not, then you’re down converting your HD video back to standard def.

And what program are using to edit with? I use Pinnacle Studio because it has specific settings for HD and SD.
