How to Burn HDV Camcorder video to a DVD that is playable on most Home DVD Players?
I have a Sony HDV 1080i camcorder, I have about 30 mins worth of video I want to burn onto a DVD and be able to watch that DVD on most home dvd players. What is the best process for burning the video to disc and maintaining the HD quality?
I have tried Windows DVD maker, but for some reason, it doesnt recognize my DVD rom. I have software like Sony Vegas Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro. What is the best program to use?
And what program do I use to actually burn the DVD?

I recommend Cucusoft Mpeg/Mov/RMVB/DivX/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter. It enables you to convert and burn any video file directly to VCD, DVD, SVCD, MPEG1 and MPEG2 format.

Does your camcorder have a downcovert over firewire option? If so, I would use that. Turn it on, then digitize the footage as SD DV Codec footage. Then author a DVD using that.
Basically if you want it to playback nice with most DVD players you’re going to be taking this down to SD. And the built in downconvertor with many cameras (and decks) actually does a really nice job. Then you can author out a DVD.
If you have an Adobe suite, then try Adobe Encore DVD to author the DVD. I think its a decent application. Sony Vegas comes with what, Sonic’s DVDiT? I haven’t looked at the Vegas suite in ages, so am not sure what it comes with, but I imagine some DVD authoring tool that is sufficient. Worst case scenario, just take the digitized file and throw it into Nero. When in Nero, just select the DVD-Video option, and it will encode the MPEG-2 for you (I believe, I know Toast will on the Mac).
