HP 2207h can't go any higher than 480p?

I bought a Canon HF10 HD camcorder and plugged it into my 2207h monitor with a mini HDMI cable. The monitor shows it's in 480p mode. I can find no menu item to change this and the video signal it's receiving is 1080. Also, the video on the 2207h does not maintain the same 16:9 aspect ratio as the camera. Instead, the video is "squeezed" a bit on the left and right to make everything look slightly taller. Any ideas on both of these issues? Thanks.
I believe the issue is with the camcorder and it's class c mini HDMI cable. Any ideas on that?

  1. dp says:

If you’re certain you’re using the Canon’s 1080i output option, it’s likely the problem is with the HP rather than the cable. There’s no difference in the wiring of Type A and Type C HDMI cables or connectors.

The HP’s native resolution is 1680 x 1050; therefore, it can’t display 1080i in native format and would have to have a conversion capability built in. I don’t see a 1080-line format listed as being supported in its spec sheet, nor do I see anything in the User’s Guide that says it should display 1080i correctly. I do see 640 x 480, which has a 4:3 aspect ratio and could therefore produce the image-squeezing effect you’re seeing. Try switching the Canon to 480p and see whether that helps.

I’m puzzled, though, as to why they’d include an HDMI interface if the monitor can’t display HD formats properly. So maybe we’re both missing something here. Check the Canon again, perhaps by plugging it into an HDTV, to ensure you’ve got 1080i coming out. If that checks out, call HP’s support line.
