I am trying to capture video from my DV camcorder. The captured video is jerky or incomplete. Can you help me?

I have all the proper equipment, lots of memory (an external HD w 182 GB available), and my processor is fast enough (1.6 mhz). It seems like the computer just doesn't keep up with the camcorder. The video shows in the preview window (though jerky) and marks that it's being captured. When it's done, the captured video is jerky and incomplete. I've tried Windows Movie Maker (have tried it with the preview window off and on), VideoStudio 11, and Power Director 5. All have the same result. I've got a Dell Dimension 4300 using XP Home Edition. I'm using Trend Micro-pcillon virus software and am not on a network. My internet connection is with cable broadband. Can you please help?

  1. JustMe says:

If you are storing to an external drive, it may not be fast enough. It WILL NOT be fast enough if your connection is limited to USB 1 speed by either the computer or the drive. If you can move some of your internal hard drive files to the external drive, perhaps you could free up enough space to try that drive instead. Defragmenting the drive might also help, as could checking to make sure DMA is active.

You may also have a problem in playing back the video directly in the digital format, another bandwidth intensive task, but I think this is less likely.
