Sony SR7 Quality? Help?
I am thinking about buying the Sony HD camera - sr7.
I was wondering if you can movie professional looking quality movies, as a start for video production. If not, how about by using Sony Vegas?
If not then, can anyone recommend a camcorder in that price range that will produce good results.
Thank You.

Professional video folks use professional video cams for lots of different reasons. They, like anyone in business, don’t like to waste money – they would rather keep the money in their pockets. If a cheap consumer grade camcorder could provide professional grade video, there would be no reason for them to buy expensive camcorders and the manufacturers would not make the expensive camcorders because there would be no one buying them.
That said, a pro with experience and skill will capture great video with a cheap camcorder and a noobie with the most expensive camcorder will capture video garbage.
If you want to even approach what the professionals do, you will use miniDV tape. Canon HV30 or Sony HDR-HC9.
After that, pay attention to what you see on TV.
DO NOT pan. If you must, pan slowly.
DO NOT zoom. If you must, zoom slowly.
Use white balance.
Use an external mic or two or three depending on the shot requirements.
DO NOT capture video when handheld. Tripod, shoulder mount or a table or a chair or some other steadying device – Never handheld.
Consumer camcorders do not do well in low-light. Pros use cameras with big lenses and imaging chips. If you get a consumer grade camcorder, turn on the lights – or use a video light – or don’t complain about the poor low-light characteristcs.
Good luck!
You can use that camcorder with Sony Vegas. If you know what you are doing, you can also use Sony Vegas to make your home videos "feel" professional, but not exactingly so. The lens, image sensor, and onboard electronics are not robust enough for handling most professional filming conditions. Plus, you can’t adjust the consumer model SR7 as much as you might need for some situations you may encounter in a professional setting.
For the same price, you can get a professional Sony HVR-HD1000 http://motionpicturecentral.com/book/camcorders/sony/sony-hvr-hd1000-high-definition-1080i-single-cmos-hdv-professional-camcorder which has the professional lenses, image sensors, and electronic processing boards to provide much higher quality video in more demanding conditions.
