Sony Vegas Preview Window Help?

I have this huge preview window lag whenever I put my HD camcorder clips into sony vegas. What is the problem? Whenever I put in anything HD it starts lagging? what is the problem? Do i need a new computer?

    Previewing HD can be slow, particularly if you’ve applied effects or transitions. Try reducing the size and quality of the preview screen and pre-rendering some of your footage.
